New Book Project: Motorcycle Trailers A to Z
I am working on a new book project, tentatively titled Motorcycle Trailering A to Z: How to Choose the Right Trailer and Tow it Safely.
The last time a book on motorcycle trailering was published, Ronald Reagan was president, a first class stamp was 20 cents, and the Kentucky Derby winner was Spend A Buck. In other words, it's been a while.
Basic trailer concepts haven't changed all that much since then, but the materials, styles, and accessories available have changed significantly.
Motorcycle Trailering will offer readers a complete guide to figuring out what trailer is right for them, where to find it, how to attach it to their bike, and how to tow safely.
I'm actively working on it now and hope to have it available in early 2009.
If you have any questions about the title, have ideas you'd like to see covered, or have good digital images of motorcycle trailers in action, please
Thank you!
Open Road Outfitters
Faced with the decision to either start another technology business or do something fun, I opted for the latter.
Open Road Outfitters specializes in small cargo trailers suitable for towing by motorcycles. We handle California Sidecar Escapade trailers
as well as American Legend (for Harley and cruiser-style riders), as well as WAGS pet trailers. We also carry and install Rampage Power Lift Systems.
In mid-2007, we were approved by California Sidecar to begin installation of their Cobra and Daytona trike conversion kits for
Honda Gold Wing and Harley touring bikes.
I hope you'll keep an eye on our website www.openroadoutfitters.com as we
continue to add new products and website features.
If you find yourself in the northern Virginia area, plan to stop by our service center and warehouse and say hello!
Essential Workshops
I'm developing a series of workshops to offer at club meetings, rallies and other moto-related events based on selected topics from my new book, The Essential Guide to Motorcycle Travel.
Like the book, the goal with these workshops is to help you make better-informed decisions and not just when it comes to purchasing gear. At least one of the workshops will focus on the right way to add accessories to your bike including how to select the right type of wiring, how to make good electrical connections, and how to troubleshoot problems. Look for the first of these programs to become available mid-summer.
DONE! -- The Essential Guide to Motorcycle Travel
Fifty miles into my trip, four-fifty to go. I had just started my first long motorcycle tour when I realized I was probably in over my head. It was winter and I was heading south, but the temperatures were dropping, not rising. I had five hundred miles to cover per day when the most I had ever ridden in a day was less than half that. So it was at about that fifty mile mark that the cold air found an opening between my helmet and overstuffed rain suit. I shivered involuntarily, not from the cold, but because I knew that lessons to be learned lay ahead of me. Many lessons.
While my suspicions proved correct, I not only survived, I discovered that the journey was pretty enjoyable.
Whitehorse Press has commissioned me to develop a book that explores motorcycle touring inside-out. How to plan. What gear to buy. How to prepare yourself and your motorcycle. But most of all, how to have fun. Join my Appalachian Highways newsletter to learn about the book's progress and special offers. It's a ride you won't want to miss!
STATUS: This project has been shipped off to Whitehorse Press and we expect it will ship some time in the late summer or early fall of 2006.
