While I’m waiting for the snow to melt, I’m working on a new motorcycle travel project and I’m looking for your ideas and suggestions.
I’d like to ask for your ideas, comments and suggestions as I put this together. This video explains what I’m doing.

Dale, this sounds like a pretty aggressive project, and good research. Last year, I rode the Pony Express Trail, and this year, I’m planning a Coast to Coast plus some regional rides. –Brent
Brent, what do you anticipate to be your start and end points for your coast-to-coast? Are you laying out your route in advance, or making it up as you go along?
I’ll have to check out that Pony Express Trail – heard of it, but never looked into it. Is it exclusively for dual-sport bikes?
Dale, I have been riding my Harley almost four years now. I work with your nephew, Mike C. He told me about your site. If you are ever on the Eastern Shore of MD, let me know and we can ride! Thanks, Dawn
HI Dawn, great to hear from you. We like to get over there once or twice a year. And I always like to stop in at the Kentmorr Restaurant — simply the best crabcakes there are to be had anywhere! Tell Mike I said “hey!”
Dale I think your project should be interesting…can’t wait. I have been trying to find a detailed ride that covers the 48 states. I (we) want to visit all the states, just pass through them first and then visit the ones which were appealing to us, we have ridden quite a few but not all….The East is scarry, I have a phobia with large cities NY, Philly, etc so I skirt them. Anyway good luck and I’ll be checking your site for updates.
This year I want to do the NE states….starting and ending in St Louis, Mo.
Good luck on your project
Chico
New York is pretty manageable, Philly is tame. Boston….I shudder at the thought.
That’s good feedback though, thanks. Those of us here on the East Coast don’t tend to think about those cities as folks from other parts do. I have to say, Washington DC is actually kind of fun to explore on a bike. Dedicated on-street motorcycle parking makes it easy to get around and find a spot.
Dale, I did not see your screen shot show Florida in the picture. I live in Lake Placid, Fl, and can tell you the when the snow is accumulating in your area, you could be riding here. There are alot of off-interstate things to see and do. Furthermore, even during winter, from Virginia, you just scoot over to Lorton Va and you and the bike get onto the amtrak auto train. I have used the train many times with my Goldwing, and it cuts out about 850 miles of I-95 and then leaves you 40 miles from either Daytona or Orlando.
you also might consider renting a storage in Florida, and keeping your bike there during the winter, so you can ride while the others are using those snow blowers…..
I have been traveling to northern Quebec from Florida for the last few summers, fishing and camping. I travel through Pa, Ny, Vt, Nh, and love the Catskills (ride county road 47 from Livingston Manor to Olivera) and also the Adirondacks are awesome.
In Canada, I travel through Ottawa, camp in Gracefield, Qc, and then north through to Maniwaki, then north through the provincial park (very large, very beautiful) then on to Sennettere,Qc. I have also gone on to chibougamou, and down to three rivers Qc, then crossed back over into USA in Vermont, over through NH to Bar Harbor Maine….. My how I have great memories of those trips.
This summer I plan to ride from Lake Placid, Fl to West Glacier Montana. about 3-4 thousand miles each way….
Hi John, not to worry, Florida will definitely be represented. Those weren’t really planned out routes in the video, those were just some lines I threw on the map to give the gist of the idea. I appreciate your other comments as well, I’ll take a look at those points as I map out various routes.
Dale,
I rode to the 48 last year, plus 6 Canadian Provinces. I did this is 3 loops, with the Nashville, TN area as the hub. Hit the Southeast in April, went west in June and July, and did the northeast in September. In total, this was 16,000 miles, and about 50 days. I would be happy to send you a copy of the route if you are interested.
Jake
Dale,
Found you while trying to gather some info on a trip I am putting together as we speak. I did a coast to coast ride last year. Just short of 11,000 miles and six weeks. Some of the trip I would love to redo, others I would certainly pass on to spend more time at various places. I ride an ’03 ultra with about 95,000 miles on it now.
I vary my trips from year to year. Last year is what I call a west bound, this year I am going north again. From NC, WV, over to Gettysburg, through PA, NY, Lake Placid, NH, top of MT Washington, VT to Bar Harbor.
Leave Bar Harbor and go north into New Brunswick and around the tip to Quebec and back home. Did Nova Scotia once along with Newfoundland. Roads were way too rough for pleasure riding.
Keep up the good work and I will stop by and take a look often!
Ride Safe,
Rick
